Married Couple Open Cannabis Dispensary In Maplewood

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — A wife-and-husband team has teamed up with a national cannabis franchiser to open a marijuana dispensary in Maplewood.

Ann and Bill Henderson recently opened a Sweetspot location at 751 Irvington Avenue, transforming the interior of a 1920s home into a dispensary while preserving the “architecture and charm” of the original building.

According to the Hendersons, they were inspired to bring legal cannabis to their hometown after seeing the positive medical impacts of cannabis – as well as the “significant tax benefits” that can come with it.

The Hendersons said they plan to support the local economy by offering “competitive wages and benefits” to employees – many of whom are hired from Maplewood and the surrounding communities. The dispensary will also feature local artists on an in-store gallery wall and support community art initiatives.

Recognizing that the cannabis industry is “very complex,” the Hendersons decided to franchise with Sweetspot to help make their dream a reality, they said.

“Sweetspot’s personalized approach to cannabis as a wellness tool, combined with our knowledge of the community, has created a truly Maplewood experience,” Ann Henderson said.

“We are excited to have finally opened our doors,” she added.

Sweetspot has also franchised another New Jersey location in Vorhees, and plans to bring a cultivation location to the state soon, according to a news release.

4/20 CELEBRATION

Sweetspot Maplewood will host a 4/20 celebration throughout the weekend of the cannabis-themed “holiday” beginning on Friday, April 18 and ending on Sunday, April 20.

The dispensary will offer 25 percent discounts across the whole store, giveaways, free food from local Maplewood restaurants and vendor activations.
