City of Meridian officials and community leaders celebrated a new business opening in town as they cut the ribbon on Green Wellness Cannabis on South Frontage Road.
Opened by owners George Reese, Wit Nguyen and Patrick Hilton, Green Wellness Cannabis is a medical marijuana dispensary located near 16th Avenue South across from Cook Out.
City Councilwoman Romande Walker, who serves as the council president, said she wanted to thank the business owners for choosing to invest in Meridian.
“Thank you for joining us here in Meridian to make Meridian even better,” she said. “They can’t say that we’re not growing because we’re growing by leaps and bounds, and we thank you so much for bringing this here to Meridian.”
Reese said the dispensary has been open for about a week and is beginning to see traffic. The push now, he said, is in growing the dispensary’s patient base and helping patients find solutions to their problems.
“Our main goal is to really get as many patients signed up as possible, kind of build up that market, provide great plant medicine that is locally grown in Mississippi, and we’re just glad everybody is really supportive,” he said.
Nguyen said the owners are happy to be in Meridian and helping patients alleviate their pain. She said she enjoys being able to help people by providing an alternative to opioids or other pain medications.
“It gives an alternative to the other kind of medications out there that could possibility be addictive, so it’s just a natural type of remedy for them,” she said.
Matt Schanrock, director of Meridian Main Street, which is part of the East Mississippi Business Development Corporation, said anything the EMBDC can do to support the business is just a phone call away.
“Whether you’re gonna look for new employees, new locations, anything, we’re here to connect you and help your business grow,” he said.
