KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Three organizations will benefit from millions of dollars from the state’s adult-use cannabis program.

The Department of Health and Senior Services said it transferred more than $5 million to the following agencies to be used in the following ways:

Missouri Veterans Commission $1,819,723To be used for health care and other services for military veterans and their dependent families.Missouri State Public Defender$1,819,723To be used for legal assistance for low-income Missourians.DHSS $1,819,723For grants to increase access to low-barrier drug addiction treatment prioritizing medically proven treatment and overdose prevention and reversal methods. It can also be used for public or private treatment options with an emphasis on reintegrating recipients into their local communities, to support overdose prevention education, and to support job placement, housing and counseling for those with substance use disorders.

So far, more than $50 million from marijuana sales has been transferred to the three organizations this fiscal year.
