JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (First Alert 4) – Missouri’s mandate to crack down on intoxicating hemp products could take a bite out of the state budget.

State officials are planning to ask the Missouri legislature for about $870,000 to conduct inspections of hemp retailers. The inspectors will investigate whether the products are safe and are not being marketed to children.

Missouri Gov. Mike Parson in August issued an executive order his administration says addresses safety concerns. The Missouri Hemp Trade Association is challenging the mandate in court.
