PRESS RELEASE FROM THE WEST TENNESSEE DRUG TASK FORCE – 28TH, 29TH, 30TH DISTRICTS:
On Tuesday evening 4/15/25, Agents with the criminal interdiction team conducted a traffic stop of a sprinter van on I-40 in Haywood County for a traffic violation.
During the traffic stop, Agents became suspicious about the load being taken from Oklahoma to North Carolina and received consent to search from the driver.
During the search, Agents located 2 jobboxes padlocked shut. The driver had no key for the padlocks. Further investigation revealed the boxes were stuffed with approximately 110 pounds of vacuum sealed marijuana.
The driver was paid to pick up the boxes and deliver them and had no knowledge of the contents and was released.
The investigation is ongoing.
The West Tennessee Violent Crime and Drug Task Force is a law enforcement agency that operates by agreement between the 28th, 29th and 30th District Attorneys General of Frederick Agee, Danny Goodman and Steve Mulroy. The Criminal Interdiction Unit operates out of the 30th District and is made up of full time employees and officers assigned from the Haywood and Dyer County Sheriff’s Offices and the Memphis and Germantown Police Departments.
