NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) – Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol arrested three people after locating 110 pounds of suspected methamphetamine and 85 pounds of suspected marijuana in traffic stops this week on I-80.
Around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, a trooper pulled over the driver of a Kia Forte as it was headed eastbound on I-80 near North Platte. NSP said that during the traffic stop, the trooper smelled marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

According to NSP, a search of the vehicle revealed several large packages of possible methamphetamine inside suitcases in the trunk. The total weight of the meth was 110 pounds. Troopers also located a small amount of marijuana, suspected drug money, and four counterfeit $100 bills.
The driver, Yafet Kidane Berhe, 27, and passenger Douglas Cameron, 33, both of Toronto, Canada, were arrested on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine, possession with intent to deliver, possession of money for a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana – less than one ounce. Both men were lodged in Lincoln County Jail.
Thursday, at approximately 11:30 a.m., a trooper pulled over the driver of a Volkswagen Jetta headed eastbound on I-80 near Overton. NSP said that during the traffic stop, the trooper smelled marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.
According to NSP, troopers searched the vehicle and found 85 pounds of suspected marijuana concealed in trash bags in the trunk. Troopers also reportedly located a handgun.

The driver, Matthew Maly, 31, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana – more than one pound, possession with intent to deliver, possession of a firearm during a drug violation, no driver’s license, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was lodged in Dawson County Jail.
