This is the third person to serve as the head of the Office of Cannabis Management since it was created in August 2023.

ST PAUL, Minn. — Minnesota’s Office of Cannabis Management is getting another new interim director.

Governor Tim Walz announced Charlene Briner will step down. General Counsel Eric Taubel will serve as interim director. He’s worked for the office for the past year and has helped oversee new regulations for the cannabis market.

“Charlene Briner has gotten Minnesota’s emerging cannabis industry off the ground in a safe and responsible way. It’s no easy task to build a regulatory framework around an entirely new industry from scratch, but under Charlene’s leadership, Minnesota laid the foundation for a successful marketplace for years to come,” said Gov. Walz in a press release.

Gov Walz called Taubel a “proven, effective leader who brings legal expertise and a deep understating of state government and regulatory affairs.”

Taubel will be the third person to serve as the head of the Office of Cannabis Management since it was created in August 20-23. The office is responsible for developing operational and regulatory systems to launch and oversee Minnesota’s new regulated cannabis market.
