The Nebraska State Patrol seized contraband following a traffic stop around 11:30am Thursday in Dawson County. While conducting the traffic stop of a Volkswagon Jetta on I-80 near Overton, the trooper detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.
Troopers searched the vehicle and located three large garbage bags in the trunk containing numerous vacuum sealed bags of suspected Marijuana. The total weight was 85 pounds.
Troopers also located a loaded 9 mm handgun along with ammunition. Also seized were a vaccum sealer, 221 new vacuum seal bags and a shipping label printer.
The driver, Matthew Maly, 31, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, was arrested and lodged in Dawson County Jail.
Maly was arraigned in Dawson Court Friday on felony charges of Possess firearm while committing a felony, Distribution of Marijuana, Possession of Marijuana-More than a pound and No Drug Tax Stamp.
A percentage bond was set at $100,000. His preliminary hearing was set for February 18, 2025 at 11:00am.
