A crew of crooks who shot two men in the head, killing one of them, while raiding an illegal Queens casino last month were actually targeting a smoke shop upstairs — and ran off with several pounds of marijuana as they made their escape, police said Tuesday.

The NYPD on Tuesday released surveillance images of the suspects wanted for the high-stakes heist.

The hooded robbers entered the back of the illegal casino on Haight St. near 41st Ave. in Flushing about 9 p.m. and pulled guns on a small crowd inside.

They robbed the victims of their cash and cellphones, then made their way upstairs to the illegal smoke shop where they grabbed all the weed they could carry, police said.

During the hold-up at least one of the crooks opened fire, striking 37-year-old Yun Li in the head and a 42-year-old man in the face, cops said.

They fled the scene in a black Dodge Durango and a gray Nissan Pathfinder.

Medics rushed Li to New York-Presbyterian Hospital Queens, where he died the next day.

At about the same time, the older victim showed up by private means at the same hospital with a bullet wound to his cheek, cops said. He was treated and released.

Flushing residents told the Daily News that illegal gambling halls were an open secret in the community but violence at these places was a rarity.

“There are a few underground gambling … rooms around this block,” said a neighborhood cabinet maker who didn’t want to give his name. “I think this happens a lot. It’s just only this time people were shot.”

As the search for the robbers continued, police released surveillance images of three of the suspects and the vehicles they sped off in. In one image, a masked crook is carrying a clear plastic casino chip holder with his victims’ cellphone inside.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding this heist to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
