EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — Two people are facing drug and neglect charges in Evansville after police say they found a large amount of synthetic marijuana and a drug lab in a home where two kids were living.

Investigators say a search warrant was served at a home on Taylor Avenue on Wednesday, stemming from a sexual assault case involving Corey Fingers and Jasmine Fingers.

During that search, authorities say they found a synthetic marijuana manufacturing lab.

Police say they could smell a strong chemical odor when they went inside the home, and that they believed the drug lab was in a bathroom between two children’s rooms.

Investigators say they put on protective gear and dismantled the drug lab, which was occupying the entire bathroom. They say there was thick plastic sealing both doors, and towels stuffed under the door to try to keep the chemical smell inside. Police say it also appeared chemicals were being mixed in the bathtub, and that there was a large mixer and heating element next to the tub.

Police say Jasmine was at the home, but claimed she didn’t know anything about the drug lab in the bathroom connected to her child’s room and didn’t smell any chemicals.

Authorities say that once all of the dangerous chemicals had been removed from the home, a search revealed more than 9,700 grams of synthetic marijuana – around 21.5 pounds. They say they also found various items around the home like strainers with residue, glass measuring cups and beakers with residue, and a gas mask.

Investigators say the children in the home, especially the child whose bedroom was connected to the drug lab, were in danger from chemical vapors and possible chemical burns.

While authorities said Jasmine was home at the time, they say Corey was pulled over in an area of North Weinbach Avenue near East Division Street. They say Corey refused commands and had to be removed from the vehicle.

Corey and Jasmine were both arrested and booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail on drug and neglect charges. Police say Corey is also charged with resisting law enforcement causing injury, and possessing a firearm as a felon.

Court records show Jasmine and Corey both have initial hearings scheduled for Oct. 29.
