LITTLE ROCK (KATV) — The Pope County Sheriff’s Office has been in engaged in two separate traffic stops in the last five days that have led to marijuana, and cash being seized.

On October 11, 2024, Deputy Chris Thomeson ordered a vehicle that had no tailights to stop by the 76-mile marker of Interstate 40.

However, the driver proceeded to keep going at a faster speed, in an attempt to flee.

Reaching speeds over 130 miles per hour, Thomesen had to end his pursuit after one of the tires on his patrol vehicle became disabled due to debris on the road.

According to PCSO, Corporal Brian Coleman spotted the suspected vehicle at Casey’s gas station in Atkins.

The driver was then taken in by deputies, leading to a search of the vehicle.

Over 87 pounds of marijuana and $7,700 cash was found.

On October 16, 2024, Corporal Brian Coleman made a traffic stop on a truck that was towing a Tesla car, in reference to a defective taillight.

While talking to the driver, Coleman sensed a smell of marijuana from coming from the vehicle.

Once he looked in the window, 2 large trash bags in plain view were found and it had over 111 pounds of marijuana.

Sheriff Jones shared a statement, thanking the 2 deputies for their service in the traffic stops.

“It is diligent deputies like Deputy Thomesen and Cpl. Coleman that help keeps the citizens of Pope County safe.”
