COLUMBUS, Ohio (WOIO) – Senate bill 56, which would “repeal most of” the current marijuana laws in the state, has passed the Senate in a straight party vote, now awaiting a house vote and Governor signature.
SB 56 did see some adjustments just before voting as the potential tax increase was released, to be discussed later with the budget.
SB 56 would see the following changes if passed:
Medical & Adult use marijuana operators would be mergedProhibition of smoking in publicHome growing would go from 12 or less to six or lessTHC content would be restricted to 35% for plants and 70% for concentrate or extractsA more streamlined license processA cap on dispensaries at any given time in the state at 350Cannabis use can be used as a reason to fire someone from their jobNew packaging and advertising regulations
SB 56, in addition to not having changes on taxes, also did not include language on DELTA-8, and the expungement of previous conviction.
SB 56 now heads to the Ohio House, if approved it would need Governor DeWine to sign it into law.
