SHELDON—A 54-year-old Remsen man was arrested about 7:05 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, in Sheldon on a charge of possession of a controlled substance — marijuana — third or subsequent offense.
The arrest of Stephen Eric Van Grouw stemmed from an officer observing him walk into Room 12 at the Sheldon Motel and knowing he was wanted on a warrant, according to the Sheldon Police Department.
The officer knocked on the door of the room, and when Van Grouw answered, the officer could smell the odor of burnt marijuana.
Van Grouw admitted there was cannabis resin in his lunchbox, according to the incident report.
He also handed the officer a makeshift bong with marijuana in it.
