MACON, Ga. (WGXA) — A repeat drug dealer was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Wednesday, according to the Macon-Bibb District Attorney.

Jaquez Devontae Durham was convicted in what the DA’s Office called a “three-year crime spree” following guilty pleas to six separate indictments from 2021 to 2024.

Prosecutors said police found a large amount of individually packaged marijuana in his possession in November 2021, and in May of the next year, a search warrant on Durham’s home and cars led authorities to find 12 pounds of marijuana, a gun and cash. The DA’s Office also coordinated a legal forfeiture procedure to obtain a total of $33,075 from the seizure along with a 1985 Oldsmobile Cutlass that was given to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

The DA’s Office said Durham was arrested again in June 2023 for marijuana and firearm possession and once more in May 2024 during a traffic stop that led to the discovery of more marijuana and another gun. Prosecutors said Durham also participated in assaults on other inmates.

Durham indictments included charges of trafficking and possession charges, and two counts of aggravated assault.

District Attorney Anita Howard provided a statement following the sentence.

This case demonstrates our Office’s commitment to getting drug dealers off the street and holding repeat offenders accountable with prison time and the forfeiture of assets acquired through this illegal activity including cars and money,” said District Attorney Howard. “The defendant’s pattern of continued criminal behavior shows a clear disregard for the law.”
