DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) – A Rock Island man was sentenced to 17.5 years in federal prison for conspiring to distribute methamphetamine and marijuana.

Jesus A. Ruiz, 37, distributed meth and marijuana in the Quad Cities area in early 2021, according to public court documents. Ruiz was shown on surveillance footage obtaining meth in Illinois.

On May 28, 2021, Ruiz was stopped in Eldridge when police found approximately one pound of meth in the trunk of the car, public court documents said.

Ruiz was arrested in November 2021 at his home due to an outstanding parole violation in a state drug trafficking case, a media release said. During the arrest, officers found distribution quantities of marijuana and cocaine, and a firearm.

According to a media release, Ruiz will be required to serve a five-year term of supervised release after completing his imprisonment term.
