The City of Santee is now accepting applications for Commercial Cannabis Retail Business Permits.
This application process has reportedly been long-awaited by many members of the community and prospective cannabis businesses.
In August 2022, the City enacted the Cannabis Business Permit Ordinance, which allows up to four retail cannabis business permits with the Santee City Council adopting the application process in the spring of 2024.
Information on the application process and procedures, along with a fee schedule, can be found on the City of Santee’s website. The application process will require an application and supportive documents to be submitted through Santee’s Permitting & Licensing Portal. A maximum of four cannabis retail business permits can be issued in the City.
“We are excited to open up the application process for businesses who are eager to set up their retail locations in Santee,” stated Marlene Best, city manager. “The application process is extremely thorough and ensures that the businesses chosen will be the best fit for our community.”
What reportedly makes Santee’s cannabis business procedures unique is the adoption of a Community Benefits and Investment Plan, which suggests cannabis business to pay a minimum of 5% of their annual gross receipts to the City. The fee will then be used to support local community organizations and programs.
Applications are accepted through 3 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24.
