The majority of candidates running for governor want to give New Jersey residents the ability to grow their own weed.

Four Democrats — former Senate President Steve Sweeney, Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop, Rep. Mikie Sherrill and New Jersey Education Association President Sean Spiller — have voiced support to varying degrees for changing the law to allow people to grow cannabis at home.

U.S. Rep. Josh Gottheimer, D-5th Dist., who is also running for governor as a Democrat, did not immediately respond to requests to comment on whether he would support changing the law.
