Small Pet Select has launched what it claims to be the most environmentally friendly cat litter on the market, made from hemp. This new hemp-based litter offers a sustainable alternative to traditional clay options, boasting superior absorbency and odor control while being fully biodegradable and compostable.

The company emphasizes that hemp cat litter not only helps reduce the substantial 8 billion pounds of non-biodegradable cat litter currently sent to landfills annually but also supports better air quality. Unlike clay litter, which can release harmful dust particles, including silica linked to respiratory issues, hemp litter generates significantly less dust, safeguarding both pets and their owners.

Hemp farming is also highlighted for its environmental benefits; it absorbs 10 tons of CO2 per acre and naturally enhances soil quality through composting. Bill Gordon of Small Pet Select notes that this innovation represents a significant advancement in pet care products, aligning with the company’s commitment to continuous improvement and environmental stewardship.

In more pet-related news, BARK Air launched its first luxury flight tailored exclusively for dogs and their owners in May, marking a major innovation in pet-friendly travel. The inaugural flight, which took place from Westchester County Airport to Van Nuys Airport, Los Angeles, is the result of a decade-long effort by BARK CEO Matt Meeker, inspired by his own travel challenges with his Great Dane, Hugo.

The service offers a stress-free experience with amenities like a lounge with dog treats and no crates or TSA checks. The $6,000 ticket for one dog and its owner includes luxury features such as dog-friendly food and beverages. The company, known for BarkBoxes, has partnered with Talon Air for high standards of safety and service. BARK Air plans to expand its routes to various cities and international destinations like London, with future reductions in costs to broaden accessibility.
