WISCONSIN, Jan. 28, 2025 — The Indigenous Cannabis Industry Association (ICIA) will host its third annual Wisconsin Cannabis Industry and Policy Summit on Thursday, Feb. 27, in Crandon, Wis., at the Mole Lake Casino Lodge. Hosted with support from the Sokaogon Chippewa Community, Mole Lake Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, the statewide cannabis summit brings together Wisconsin’s cannabis industry for continued education, networking, and collaboration. Registration is open now for Native and non-Native cannabis and hemp industry professionals.
The Summit serves as a platform for collaboration and progress, offering a unique opportunity to explore the untapped potential of cannabis and hemp in Wisconsin and beyond. Building on the success of its past state-wide summits, the ICIA is committed to positioning this one-day conference as a data-driven and community based gathering to promote the advancement of the cannabis industry in Wisconsin. Topics covered at the summit include industrial hemp and fiber, the Farm Bill and how to navigate current legislation, the advancement of plant medicine, recreational hemp and cannabis, and more.
“Conversations start where we are in Wisconsin. Hemp is here, and our communities are working within the current legal framework to maximize the potential of hemp as a climate-smart resource, as well as making good medicine available to people across Wisconsin,” said Rob Pero, founder of the Indigenous Cannabis Industry and member of the Bad River Band of the Lake Superior Tribe of Chippewa Indians. Pero is also the founder of Wisconsin’s first independent Indigenous owned hemp farm and cannabis retailer Canndigenous.
Panels during the conference will be educational, focused on embracing the potential of hemp and cannabis for wellness as well as industrial purposes. The keynote address will be provided by Dr. Joseph Rosado, who is a leader in the effort to destigmatize cannabis in healthcare and was the first doctor in Florida to prescribe THC to a child. Dr. Rosado is an ICIA Board Member and will provide evidence-based data on cannabis treatments for PTSD and opioid dependency. Wellness and education speakers will also include experts on the medical, social, and economic benefits of cannabis, featuring perspectives from veterans, law enforcement, educators, and healthcare providers.
Industrial hemp experts from across the region will attend to share best practices related to hemp farming and processing. The Summit will dive into agricultural initiatives, supply chain solutions, and the revitalization of Wisconsin’s hemp industry as a climate-smart commodity.
Experts from national industry organizations and throughout the supply chain will discuss best practices for navigating the intersection of medicinal and recreational legislation. The ICIA, which facilitated the launch of the Wisconsin Tribal Task Force on Cannabis and its ongoing Wisconsin Wellness campaign last year to promote the accessibility of plant medicine in Wisconsin, will provide insight to legislative updates that are shaping the future of cannabis policy and the Farm Bill in Wisconsin.
“The Summit is more than just a conference—it’s a movement to shape a sustainable, inclusive future for cannabis and hemp in Wisconsin,” said Pero. “By bringing together the perspectives of our community we can cultivate understanding, bridge gaps, and empower communities through informed data and shared lessons.”
More than a conference, this event is a step towards a sustainable, inclusive cannabis future. Visit indigenouscannabis.org/policy-summit-2025 to register or reach out to info@indigenouscannabis.org for sponsorship and membership opportunities.
