A local medical marijuana dispensary is under investigation by the Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office. Multiple agents with the state agency served a search warrant at Green Plus Dispensary at 8613 S Western in Oklahoma City Wednesday afternoon.
According to the OAG’s office, the search is part of an ongoing investigation being conducted by the agency along with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority (OMMA), Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics (OBN) and the Oklahoma City Police Department.
The presence of law enforcement got the attention of many people passing by.
“I’ve never seen anything like this,” said Wallace Lawrence, a friend of the owner of Green Plus Dispensary.
Lawrence says he works in the medical marijuana industry and believed agents were seizing property at his friend’s business.
“This is a respectable businessman; he’s been in the industry since the beginning,” Lawrence said.
Agents conducted a search of the dispensary and another business at the same location, called Twice Baked Edibles. They spent most of their time inside a white building behind the dispensary, where agents were seen carrying boxes of evidence. The agents also tossed about a dozen bags of seized property into the back of a black trailer.
“I think it’s too much, but if they’re doing something illegal, that’s great get them,” said Larry Huffine, a passerby.
During the search, the Oklahoma City Fire Department arrived. Firefighters carried in several cutting tools to help agents open a safe. No word on what was inside that safe or the evidence collected, but one lady who works nearby at an early childhood facility says the business is a nuisance.
“When we walk out of our doors, we smell it, and do we like it? No,” she said, wanting to remain anonymous. “It would be nice if we don’t have to smell it anymore.”
While the business closed for the remainder of Wednesday, those in the medical marijuana industry hope it’s not for good.
“It’s definitely a sad day for the industry,” Lawrence said.
Agents left with all the seized property just after 3 p.m. Wednesday. No arrests have been made.
As part of this investigation, the OAG agents also searched a medical marijuana waste disposal site in Logan County.
