MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. — Seven medical marijuana businesses will come to the West Kentucky area.

That’s after the Kentucky Office of Medical Cannabis held a lottery drawing Monday for 36 dispensaries across the state.

Three businesses, OM MED LLC, CannCo LLC, and Leiber Canna II LLC, which applied in McCracken County, were selected.

Green4U LLC in Mayfield, Graves County, was also drawn.

Also selected were three dispensaries that applied to be based in Lyon County.

They are ARKY Capital Investments LLC, River City Relief House LLC, DPDMJF Cannabis Holding Company.

However, regulations for the medical marijuana rollout in Kentucky allow only one dispensary per county so there is equal access across the state.

During the drawing Monday, executive director for the Office of Medical Cannabis Sam Flynn said that means some businesses are going to have to relocate.

“In that instance, we allow the original county, the original applicant in that county that selected to stay in that county, and then the subsequent applicant that’s selected to move to another jurisdiction that allows for medical cannabis operations. Again, dispensaries have to stay within that licensing region,” Flynn said.

Now, the businesses drawn are on the clock to secure their license.

“You’ll be prompted to submit your licensing fee prior to receiving your license. If you fail to submit your licensing fee within 15 days, you will forfeit the ability to receive your license, per Kentucky law and administrative regulations,” Flynn said.

Though medical marijuana becomes legal in Kentucky on Jan. 1, 2025, Gov. Andy Beshear said the program likely won’t be fully operational by then.

Once cultivators and processors are producing the cannabis, Beshear said they’ll be able to estimate when the patients can start receiving product.

Still, patients can begin the process to get a cannabis card this Sunday, Dec.1.
