California cannabis regulators issued a voluntary recall on Dec. 6 for four vape cartridge batches from Los Angeles-based STIIZY due to the potential contamination of a Category I pesticide—classified as having the most highly acute toxicity levels.

The Department of Cannabis Control (DCC) did not specify which Category I pesticide was the cause of the recall.

Two of the four batches were sold at licensed dispensaries beginning in October 2021, while the other two batches were sold beginning in October 2023, according to the DCC. All of the STIIZY Premium THC Pods vape cartridge products involved in the recall were manufactured by Ironworks Collective Inc.

The products were available to consumers at 48 retail locations in Alameda, El Dorado, Imperial, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, Sacramento, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Barbara, Santa Clara, Solano, Ventura and Yolo counties.

The recall applies to the following STIIIZY Premium THC Pods vape cartridge products:

Pink Acai, 0.5-gram (ST-ORG-SPA-H3123) and 1-gram (ST-ORG-SPA-H3123) pods sold on or after Oct 18, 2023, with the following UID numbers:1A406030000678A000022491 1A406030000678A000022490Purple Punch, 0.5-gram (ST-ORG-PRP-092021V2) and 1-gram (ST-ORG-PRP-092021V2) pods sold on or after Oct. 12, 2021, with the following UID numbers:1A406030000678A000011235 1A406030000678A000011220

The DCC encourages consumers who purchased these THC pods to check the unique ID numbers and batch numbers on their package and, if the numbers match the recall, to return the product to their retailer for proper disposal.

This marks the DCC’s 59th recall this year after making just four product recalls in 2023. Among the 2024 recalls, 21 were voluntary, occurring when licensees identified that their product was mislabeled, defective or unsafe for consumption (adulterated or misbranded).
