The right to sell popular hemp products in Tennessee is safe for now.

That’s after a judge temporarily blocked new rules that would change the way hemp is tested in the state.

Tennessee currently defines legal hemp as flower containing less than 0.3% Delta 9 T-H-C, or the component that gets you high.

But now, starting in February, Tennessee hemp may only be legal if it contains less than 0.3 percent after it is burned.

Some Chattanooga hemp retailers say the new change could limit their available inventory, to ensure that is actually keeping it at the lower possible level rather then taking something into account that is not actually delta 9

Its definitely going to hurt for sure and even the folks that are in Tennessee, I’ve Talked to a lot of the growers, and they’re just going to pull retail from the state and sale online only, said Josh Manning, the CEO of Snapdragon Hemp

According to Manning, this new law will leave Tennesseans high and dry.

He says in just the first half of 2024 year alone, the Tennessee hemp industry generated over 50 million dollars in revenue.

Other hemp industry experts who spoke before legislators say if this law does pass, that’s all gone

It was a lot of money that the department of revenue has gotten in the last 6 to 8 months, I mean it was millions.. it would all go away if the industry goes away, said Chris Sumrell, the owner of Farm to Med.

Meanwhile, Manning says its business like the ones in Chattanooga that will suffer the worst.

Once North Carolina picks up, South Carolina picks up Georgia picks up, Alabama picks up, and were surrounded by folks, all that money is going to leave the state and other places
