SEATTLE — A stolen car was used to smash into a cannabis store in Seattle on Wednesday morning, and even extensive security measures undertaken by the owner could not stop the thieves from getting inside.

Shortly after 2 a.m., police received a call of a Hyundai SUV that had plowed into the front of Ruckus Recreational on North 36th Street in Fremont. Officers arrived to find the SUV on the sidewalk and a gaping hole in the storefront. The suspects were already gone.

The front of the cannabis shop is lined with bollards and a metal security gate stretches behind the front windows, but the impact from the vehicle dislodged both, and the thieves were able to get inside.

The owner said there were about five suspects involved in the break-in and they primarily stole marijuana products. There was also merchandise scattered across the floor.

A witness told investigators that one vehicle was used to smash into the storefront and then the group of thieves left in a second vehicle. The Hyundai turned out to be stolen from Des Moines and it was towed from the scene to be processed for evidence.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call the Seattle Police Department’s tip line at 206-233-5000.
