REDDING, Calif. — The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office arrested two individuals on Wednesday following a traffic stop that led to the discovery of significant quantities of drugs.
According to the SCSO, officers conducted the stop around 9:05 p.m. near Ranchette Drive and Silverado Drive for code violations. The driver was identified as 41-year-old Marcelino Chavez of Anderson, with 38-year-old Sheann Martinez of Redding as the passenger.
Police said Chavez was on active probation, prompting a search of the vehicle. Officers found approximately 139.1 grams of methamphetamine and 5 pounds of processed marijuana.
Due to the volume of narcotics, the Shasta Interagency Narcotics Task Force was contacted to take over the investigation. Both Chavez and Martinez were interviewed and subsequently booked into the Shasta County Jail.
Chavez faces multiple charges, including possession of a controlled substance with prior convictions, possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession of marijuana for sale, possession of a narcotic controlled substance, and transportation of a controlled substance. He is being held on $50,000 bail.
Martinez was booked for possession of narcotic paraphernalia, authorities said.
