TAMPA, Fla. — The 2024 general election is just two months away and voters will decide if recreational marijuana should be legalized in the state.

Amendment 3 would allow adults 21 years old and older to possess, purchase, and use marijuana products recreationally

Presidential candidate Kamala Harris Harris has previously voiced her support for legalizing marijuana

On Saturday, former President Donald Trump came out in support of the amendment.

Trump voiced his opinion on Truth Social, saying in part, “Whether people like it or not, this will happen through the approval of the voters, so it should be done correctly. We need the state legislature to responsibly create laws that prohibit the use of it in public spaces. Someone should not be a criminal in Florida when this is legal in so many other states.”

Democratic Presidential Candidate Kamala Harris has previously voiced her support for legalizing marijuana.

She says it’s absurd that the federal government classifies marijuana as more dangerous than fentanyl.

If it passes, the amendment would allow adults 21 years old and older to possess, purchase, and use marijuana products recreationally.

Aaron Bloom, the CEO of DOC MJ, said he’s paying close attention to this year’s election.

“We have over 800,000 people enrolled who are using it medicinally,” he said. “So Amendment 3 would make a big change in the way marijuana is available to both the residents and the tourists in Florida.”

Bloom believes politicians are beginning to represent how Floridians feel about the marijuana industry.

Having both Trump and Harris show support is a scenario Bloom said he couldn’t imagine even when they first opened in 2016.

“It’s hard to remember even when a leading party was in support of medical marijuana or marijuana in general, so I think it’s very exciting,” he said.

To become a constitutional amendment in Florida, 60% of voters would need to vote yes this election.
