Two men were arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute near the Grambling State University campus early Monday morning.

A police officer with the Grambling Police Department clocked a 2007 Toyota Camry traveling on Stadium Drive at 53 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone about 12:30 a.m. Monday morning. The vehicle was stopped, and the officer saw a rolled marijuana cigarette in the center cup holder of the front seat.

The driver, Jaylan R. Mitchell, 19, said there was more marijuana in the car. He removed three small baggies of suspected marijuana and one larger baggie from the middle armrest.

The rear seat passenger, Donnell R. Williams, II, 19, and Mitchell, both of Dallas, Texas, claimed ownership of the marijuana. During a search of the vehicle, the officer located a medium-sized baggie containing marijuana in the front passenger glove compartment.

The front seat passenger stated he knew the marijuana was there but did not claim ownership of it. Williams and Mitchell were arrested and taken to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center where they were booked for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Mitchell was also cited for speeding 53/35 and no driver’s license.

Bail was set at $20,000 for each man.
