The city of Union has finalized zoning for medical cannabis businesses in the city.
The Union City Commission approved the zoning at their meeting on Monday.
Kentucky law allows for five different types of medical cannabis facilities: cultivating centers where the cannabis would be grown, processing facilities where the plants are refined for medical use, hybrid production facilities where both cultivation and processing would take place, dispensaries and safety facilities where products are tested to ensure they’re safe to use.
Under the new zoning regulations, cultivation facilities are allowed in the city’s agricultural, agricultural estate and airport zones. Small cultivation facilities could also be established in the city’s commercial-one and commercial-two zones. Processing and production facilities are allowed within the city’s industrial-one, industrial-two and airport zones.
Safety compliance facilities are allowed within the city’s commercial-three, office-one, industrial-one, industrial-two and airport zones. Finally, dispensaries are allowed within all of the city’s commercial zones, the city’s office zones, industrial-one and industrial-two zones, airport zones, Union commercial, Union town center, Graves Road business park and Graves Road commercial zones.
