US Presidential Election Legalizing Marijuana: The political temperature is constantly rising in America regarding the presidential election. There is hardly any issue where presidential candidates Donald Trump and Kamala Harris agree with each other’s policies. Both the leaders have been criticizing each other’s policies. But, now there is one issue on which both the candidates seem to agree and this issue is marijuana. Marijuana is becoming a big issue in the US presidential election. Both Trump and Kamala Harris have talked about legalizing the sale of marijuana in their election campaign. Let us tell you how legalizing marijuana has become a big issue in America.

What is the situation?

The use of marijuana is prohibited in America and this has been done under federal law. Marijuana can only be used for medicine. Despite this, marijuana is being used as a drug in almost all cities of America. Despite the federal law, many states have also legalized it. About 53 percent of the US population lives in states where the sale of marijuana is legal. This is the reason why leaders of both the Democratic and Republican parties are seen talking about legalizing it.

What do the survey figures say

Amidst all this, it is worth noting that in a survey conducted by Gallup last year, about 70 percent of the adults in America said that the use of marijuana should be legalized. Last year, the highest number of adults voted to legalize it as compared to the poll conducted in 1969 while preparing the marijuana policy. In such a situation, it is because of this that this time both the candidates are raising the issue of legalizing marijuana and it has become a big issue in the presidential election.

Kamala Harris’s stance kept changing

Even though marijuana is becoming a big issue in this election, the attitude of the leaders has never been the same on it. Kamala Harris introduced a bill in the Senate in 2019 to end the crime related to marijuana. However, there was a time when Kamala was against it. During the race to become California’s Attorney General in 2010, she opposed its legalization.

What was Donald Trump’s stance?

Former US President Donald Trump’s stance on marijuana has also been changing. While he was president, he never openly supported or opposed it. However, recently he said he would vote in favor of legalizing marijuana in Florida.

It will be interesting to see this

After the presidential election in America, it will be very interesting to see what decision the government formed after November 5 takes regarding legalizing marijuana. Will the things said in the election be implemented or will it remain just a promise?
