ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) – Pure Shenandoah works with cannabidiol products to help people manage stress, pain and anxiety through natural products.

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a byproduct of the Cannabis Sativa plant. CBD products help consumers through interactions in their nervous systems that cause a calming sensation or work as an anti-inflammatory. Though CBD comes from Cannabis Sativa, it is not the byproduct that gets users high and it helps solve common issues people face without addictive properties.

“How do I get off of some of these medications? How do I wane off of these medications? How do I get off of some? We work with doctors and it’s really a big journey, it’s never a short, simple answer,” Tanner Johnson, CEO of Pure Shenandoah, said.

Pure Shenandoah’s CBD is extracted from hemp — a type of cannabis flower that has less than 0.3% THC. Staff at Pure Shenandoah said stereotypes of CBD stem from marijuana — the type of cannabis with 0.3% or more THC — and educating people about the medicinal effects of CBD can help someone in recovery.

“Our biggest one that we see is painkillers, prescription painkillers like Oxycontin and stuff like that. CBD is a great natural anti-inflammatory,” Adyn Kirby, retail manager for Pure Shenandoah, said. “They are able to mitigate those symptoms without all of the harsh side effects with a natural alternative.”

Every addict’s recovery journey is unique. Johnson said people of all backgrounds and walks of life can benefit from CBD. Older generations struggling with arthritis or constant joint pain can use CBD oils to help aching muscles through its anti-inflammatory properties. People who have trouble sleeping at night can use different CBD products to feel relaxed and fall asleep faster.

CBD at Pure Shenandoah is served in several different forms. The CBD products range from pre-rolls which can be smoked to gummies and beverages that can be consumed. Johnson said the versatility in selection can help someone through their recovery journey. If they are recovering from opioid usage, the recovering addict may not feel comfortable smoking CBD but may feel more comfortable drinking or eating the CBD according to Johnson.

If you or a loved one is struggling with addiction and are looking for substance abuse treatment, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) hotline is 24/7, free and confidential hotline for treatment referral. The 988 hotline is also available for people struggling with Mental Health Issues.
