A video released by the Metropolitan Police shows Sergeant Cooley’s pursuit using the commandeered bike and the final capture on foot.
The arrest, which dates from December 9 last year, is said by the force to have “removed a large amount of drugs from the cycle of crime”.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of possession and intent to supply Class B drugs.
A Metropolitan spokesperson said: “Officer arrests a drug dealer in Greenwich after commandeering his own bike to make the arrest.
“Watch to see how Sergeant Alan Cooley and PC Ama Thind persevered with the pursuit and removed a large amount of drugs from the cycle of crime.”
In the video, Sgt Cooley picks up the bike and then rides it through the streets, over pavements and grass before circling the suspect around a car.
Sgt Cooley says: “May as well give up mate.”
They continue to circle each other around the car numerous times as the officer shares their location near Domino’s Pizza with backup.
Another pursuit begins before a support car arrives and the suspect is chased down on foot and brought to the floor shouting.
After arresting him, Sgt Cooley says: “That bag you have dumped by that bin has quite a quantity of cannabis in it.”
