The odor of marijuana smoke led to the arrest of a man incarcerated in the Echo North Housing area in the Erie County Holding Center, Erie County Sheriff John C. Garcia reported.

Michael Escabi, 31, of Buffalo, was charged with first-degree possession of dangerous contraband in prison, a Class D felony.

According to the report, Holding Center personnel detected the smoke while they were touring the area Feb. 17 and discovered a blanket wedged under a cell door.

Garcia said the personnel talked with Escabi, the only occupant of the cell, and confiscated the alleged contraband.
