House subcommittee contender working on new hemp authority Lobbyists eyeing possible proposal in lame-duck session

Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-Va.) is working on new legislation that would give the Food and Drug Administration explicit authority to regulate hemp-derived products and propose new labeling and manufacturing quality requirements.

Griffith is collaborating with Republican staff from the House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee on a draft bill, according to two lobbyists familiar with the proposal. The lawmaker is vying for the top GOP spot on the subcommittee, which oversees the health sector including the regulation of food and drugs.
