Kyle Solowyk, 29, from Barry was part of a gang who sourced wholesale amounts of the class B drug in America to sell on the streets of the UK.

Led by 28-year-old Abubakr Khawar from Cardiff, the lucrative operation was in business between November 2022 and December 2024.

Solowyk, of Jewel Street, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply and conspiracy to import the class B drug.

He and his co-defendants were caught following an investigation led by Tarian, the regional organised crime unit for southern Wales.

The cannabis was shipped over using parcel delivery services and concealed in vacuum packs disguised as items such as clothing and toys to avoid detection.

Parcels were then delivered to addresses across south Wales with recruits paid between £50 and £200 to receive them.

Following Tarian’s investigations, it’s estimated the gang was generating daily sales of over £10,000 and importing approximately 23kg of cannabis each week.

Packages intercepted by Border Force were estimated to be worth between £7.5 million and £11.2 million.

On December 9, 2024, Tarian, supported by South Wales Police and British Transport Police, executed a number of warrants to arrest those involved.

Solowyk and his co-conspirators are due to be sentenced on September 10.

They are:

Abubakr Khawar, 28, from Riverside, Cardiff

Daniel Marshall, aged 40, from Treharris, Merthyr Tydfil

Andrew Pethers, 36, from St Mellons, Cardiff

Sophie Jones, aged 32, from Splott, Cardiff

Ceiron Jones, 28, from Whitchurch, Cardiff

Solomon Bertram, aged 36, from Llanishen, Cardiff

Mohammed Nurul Hussain, 28, from Cardiff

Abdu Huriara Husain, aged 28, from Leckwith, Cardiff

Sean Montgomery, 24, from Rumney, Cardiff

Steven Munroe, aged 44, from Riverside, Cardiff

They were all remanded in custody.

Detective Constable Sean Meyrick from Tarian said: “I would like to thank Border Force for their assistance in this investigation and colleagues at Tarian and our constituent forces.”
