MIDDLESBORO, Ky. (WVLT) – The Bell County (KY) Sheriff’s Department said two people were arrested after an extensive investigation.
According to BCSD, deputies investigated a marijuana trafficking operation at the Happy Smoke Shop in the Middlesboro Crossing Shopping Center. Those conducting the operation made controlled purchases and determined the establishment did not ID, which “placed juveniles in danger of possessing the controlled substance.”
Authorities started an investigation after multiple agencies received tips and evidence related to other cases linking the business to marijuana trafficking, BCSD said.
The investigation resulted in 39-year-old Amer Allabani and 22-year-old Jared Cabrera, both of Galax, Virginia, being arrested and charged with trafficking in marijuana and acquiring property from income from trafficking in a controlled substance. They were then booked into the Bell County Detention Center.
BCSD said other agencies involved in the investigation included DESI East, Knox County (KY) Sheriff’s Department, Pineville Police Department and the U.S. Marshal Service.
Additional charges are pending, the sheriff’s department said.
