[#item_full_content] A Douglas police officer arrested a Tifton man on illegal drug and gun charges as a result of smelling marijuana at an intersection. A report from the police department states that on May 5, 2026, at around 10 p.m., a Douglas police officer was patrolling in the area of Martin Luther King and Mitchell Street when he smelled a strong odor of marijuana at the intersection. He looked around and saw a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe sitting at a Mitchell Street address with its lights on. The officer turned around and saw that the vehicle’s lights had been turned off. The officer got out with the vehicle and asked the driver, identified as Ty’Quavian Tyrese Brown, 23, of Tifton, to roll down the window. The report says that he refused. Eventually, he rolled his window down a few inches but later tried to roll it up. The officer threatened to break the window and Brown finally complied. The report says the officer could see marijuana inside the Tahoe. The officer also asked Brown to get out of the vehicle, which, the report says, he did not do. The officer pulled Brown out of the Tahoe and handcuffed him. Another officer arrived and the two searched the vehicle. According to the report, they found a loaded .357 handgun, five suspected ecstasy pills, and other pills. Brown was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. He was booked into the Coffee County Jail and released on bond.  Read More
